"A women's group was founded in 1983 by the name of Women's Auxiliary to enhance sisterhood, promote goodwill and understanding among memberships.
We compiled a cookbook called "Pakistani Cuisine" which I edited. Recipes were provided by the members of the Women's Auxiliary. This introduced Pakistani Cuisine to many and turned out to be a good source for fund-raising. More than two thousand dollars were raised for from the sales of this book and were donated to KEPGE fund. One of the major objectives of KEMCANNA has always been to create an environment where children can learn about Pakistani Culture and Islamic values. Our children are subject to a great deal of stress because of cultural conflicts. As a minority, handling the problems of young adulthood in this complex society is a major challenge. In an effort to provide them with a compatible peer group, a youth group was formed in 1987. The goals of the group were to provide strength and support to each other, establish a positive image of Pakistani youth, have a forum for social and cultural activities and thus develop a sense of identity through coming in contact with other young people of similar backgrounds. I organized the first youth group meeting which was sponsored by the KEMC Women's Auxiliary at the time of the annual summer meeting of APPNA, held in Oak Brook, Illinois in 1987".

"While the spouses of APPNA members had met informally at the annual meetings from the time of the founding of the organization, the idea for a formal organization for APPNA wives came out of a long range strategic planning efforts begun in 1990. In the beginning APPNA Auxiliary as it was called, focused its activities on planning social events at the annual meetings. In 1995, APPNA President Dr. Waheed Akbar sought to have APPNA Women’s Auxiliary become a more integral Part of the organization. He formed a committee of eight member spouses to propose changes to the auxiliary, including Razia Chishti (Chair), Shaheen Ahmad, Naheed Arshad, Samina Chaudhry, Qamar Khan, Tanveer Khan, firdoos Shirif, and Naheed Safdar.

| The committee recruited new members and drafted a constitution that was presented to the APPNA executive council in 1996 and approved. To under write public service projects they wanted to under-take, the auxiliary, now re-named APPNA Alliance published and sold a cookbook in 1999. The Alliance sponsored speakers in conjunction with the APPNA annual meeting to lecture on topics such as homeless shelters and domestic abuse of women of Pakistani Descent living in the U.S. by establishing support these groups for several large cities. The Alliance also took up the issues of illiteracy of Pakistani children, and shipped books to Pakistan for the project.
